Dear 2012 Baseball and Softball Coaches
On Thursday evening, March 15th we have a special treat for you as the former MLB players are in town for our baseball weekend and we will be kicking off their visit by sharing some of their training and teaching secrets with us at the coaches clinic. For those of you who have done this before you’ll know what we mean but for those that have not it is a real opportunity to get access to some of the best training and educational minds in the baseball business. The evening will be run by Denny and Blake Doyle along with Paul Hartzell. The Doyles, founders of the Doyle Baseball Academy, have been training young baseball players since 1978 (http://doylebaseball.com/) and are viewed by many in the baseball community as the finest developers and coaches of young talent in the business. They’ve got a brilliant style and delivery and I think you will all take something away from it that you can use with your kids this spring. And we also welcome back Paul Hartzell who spent six seasons in the majors pitching for four different teams and is a long-time friend and supporter of London Baseball/Softball.
We will start at 630 pm in the Upper Gym at the American school and the session should last approximately 2 hours. After a short intro session we’ll be moving through a series of 3 stations to work on various basic skills and teaching methods. Please bring your glove and if possible a pair of trainers as we’ll be on the gym floor.
If you have any questions please contact Verity at vll@me.com or Peter Thompson at pt@source.info or on 07590779832. This evening is for those who have volunteered to coach or who are interested in coaching for the 2012 season.
Many thanks and see you on the 15th. Please RSVP to: Peter Thompson <Peter.Thompson@source.info>
Best regards – Peter Thompson

Dear Parents and Players
We will be entering a Travel Team in the British Baseball Federation (BBF) this spring to compete against other teams between the ages of 10 to 13 years old (Bronco Division).
We are scheduled to play games starting in mid April through the first week in June. Teams we will compete against are:
Herts All Stars (tentatively Sat., 21st April away)
Bracknell Wildfire (Sat., 5th May home)
LYBL (Sat., 12th May away)
London Mets (Sat., 19th May home)
Forest Glade (Sat., 26th May home)
Essex Atoms (Sat., 2nd June away)
All home games will be played at Wormwood Scrubs and all games are tentatively scheduled to be doubleheaders. For away games parents will have to arrange transportation to and from the games. The maximum travel distance for teams denoted above (excluding traffic from the Scrubs) is less or approxiamately one hour away on the motorway.
The Travel Team will have their own separate uniform which will be assigned by LondonSports.com and our colours will be orange and black.
Youths (boys and girls between the ages 10 to 13 years old) must try out and be assessed from a pool of players that are registered to play in our League only.
We plan on having 13 to 15 players on our opening day roster, although we may extend this number if possible and practical.
Our League (LondonSports.com) has made allowances in their schedule to accommodate players on the Travel Team in competing on Saturday's and still playing their regularly assigned teams on Sunday.
The BBF has a fall tournament in September which if we qualify and have enough players and parents committment we will enter a team to compete against teams all around the UK.
Further, we have been asked and are considering entering other tournaments or play games against teams from surrounding areas and abroad.
BBF rules:
Distance from home plate to pitchers plate is 46ft.
Distance from one base to another 70 ft.
Fences from home plate the the lines are 200 ft and 250 to centre field.
There are maximum pitch counts.
Bunting is permitted.
There are no pitching or hitting restrictions because of age.
Metals bats are allowed.
Stealing is allowed only after the ball has crossed home plate.
If there is a play at any base the base runner must slide (with the exception of first base); Otherwise the runner will be called out.
There are intentional walks.
Single games will be 7 innings and doubleheaders will be 6 innings each game.
Tryouts
You must register your youth online with your unique login from our LondonSports.com website. That is, under the parents link click the link that denotes "Clinic, Evals, Travel Team" then register your son and/or daughter to tryout.
I will have a pre tryout meeting whereby I will be discussing more particulars about tryouts, practise and etc., on Sunday, 11th March from 12:00 to 12:45 in Canary Wharf, just prior to our Canary Wharf Academy Clinic. If you cannot attend let me know so I can make alternative arrangements.
I would appreciate everyone's support for the Travel Team even if your son and daughter will not try out, as its our first time competing in the BBF. Moreover, our Travel Team will be representing not just select players that are 10 - 13 years old, but all our Leagues players, parents, volunteers and commissioners that have made LondonSports.com so special for over 25 years! So thank you in advance for your support.
If you have any questions send me an email to gp_hello@yahoo.com and in the subject line denote Travel Team.
Sincerely
Gerry Perez

Thanks to all the parents that expressed an interest in establishing a Flag Football League in the Fall. Stay tuned for more information regarding League Enrollment to take place in May.

Dear Parents,
This Saturday's clinic at Lords Cricket Ground has very tight restrictions on participant numbers, therefore we can only accommodate those players who have received an email confirmation from me that they have a place . There will be a list of names at the door, so please check in when you arrive . If you have not received an email from me then please do get in touch and I can let you know whether your child has a confirmed place.
Don't forget that there are clinics at Canary Wharf without the space restrictions. On March 18th we are holding our special skills clinic with former Major League Baseball players who come especially from the U.S to teach our players. Don't miss it!
Any questions then email Verity at vll@me.com
See you at the Scrubs!
